sending files via FTP
you’re busy - we get that - so at Zimmermann’s we can accept files you want to print electronically over the internet via FTP. There are heaps of FTP programs out there, you can use whichever you want. However, if you’ve never used FTP software before here’s some instructions on a couple we use to get you started - Cyberduck and FileZilla - see below for basic instructions on each. When uploading orders it’s important to follow the naming convention set out below to ensure your order is completed to your requirements - see details below on how to name your folders.
getting access
to be able to transfer files we will need to set you up a user account, so call in, email or call us and we can get that set up.
Cyberduck
Cyberduck is a Mac only program and you need to be using Mac OS 10.4 or 10.5. Cyberduck is shareware - which means if you download it, use it and like it then a donation to the developer helps keep the software current and bug free - there is no specific amount though - you donate what you
think it’s worth. Until you make a donation the below window will open whenever you launch or quit Cyberduck.
You can download Cyberduck from… http://cyberduck.ch/
once downloaded you will see the disk image on your desktop…
drag all the files inside the disk image to a folder in your applications folder called Cyberduck
When you launch Cyberduck the following window will open…
Click the ‘Open Connection’ button in the top left and the following window will open…
Enter the following server details…
203.59.123.59
Enter your username and password and click the ‘Connect’ button.
The following window will then open…
All you need do now is drag whatever files you want into the Cyberduck window - they will automatically transfer to your folder on our server. The following window will show the progress of your transfer, send us an email once your files are transferred and we’ll do the rest.
FileZilla
FileZilla works on both Mac and PC. FileZilla is free, they have a client version and a server version - the one you want to send files to us is the client version. You can download FileZilla from here…
The file you download will look like this…
Once you’ve expanded the downloaded file it will show the FileZilla application icon. You can put this icon wherever you want to store it on your computer
Once you’ve installed FileZilla and opened it you should see this window…
At the top of the window you’ll see you need to enter ‘host’, ‘username’ and ‘password’.
Our ‘host’ is…
203.59.123.59
Use the username and password provided to you - don’t worry about entering a ‘port’.
Simply hit ‘enter’ on your keyboard once you’ve typed in the information and you should see a message showing ‘ Status Directory listing successful’ in the box under where you typed your password etc.
Then - the left side of the window represents your computer, the right side is your folder on our server - simply navigate to where the images are on your side and drag them over to our side, send us an email once your files are transferred and we’ll do the rest
The screen may look a bit complex but it’s not really - if you like, call in for a demo when you’re in the area.
folder set up requirements
It is important to provide the files in the right way so we print what you want - follow the following conventions for standard prints. If your prints are for an album put the images into a folder using your name, your client name and the album size as the name of the folder - eg ‘BestPhotography Smith 10x10 album’. You can then fax or email a completed album order form for the album.
The Main Folder should be your name and date. Sub Folders within the main folder should follow the naming convention: size-quantity-print surface eg: 5x7-2-G
Folders named with only a size will only have one print made on lustre paper of each image contained within the folder.
In this example one print of each image would be made on 6x4” lustre paper
Folders named with a size and quantity will have a number of prints equal to the quantity made on lustre paper of each image contained within the folder.
In this example two prints of each image would be made on 5x7” lustre paper
Folders named with a size, quantity and print surface will have a number of prints equal to the quantity made on the requested print surface of each image contained within the folder.
In this example three prints of each image would be made on 6x4” gloss paper
